Spaghetti Warehouse Vows to Stay in Houston
Spaghetti Warehouse, a longtime fixture on the downtown dining scene, is not planning on leaving Houston after suffering significant damage as Buffalo Bayou flood waters inundated parts of downtown following Harvey. The Dallas-based company issued a statement Wednesday following posts on social media that indicated the restaurant was permanently shuttering in Houston. "Spaghetti Warehouse is not closing on a permanent basis in Houston," said David Ayers, spokesman for the restaurant. Ayers said that the flood prone building at 901 Commerce took on water up to the top of the first floor during Harvey. And while the restaurant remains closed, the...
Texas Hotel in the Midst of Renovations Donates Furniture to Harvey's Homeless
A hotel is your home away from home. It can be even more when your home is underwater. When Hurricane Harvey hit, The Best Western Plus of Lewisville welcomed dozens of heartbroken Houstonians. "All of our team was interacting with these people," said General Manager Chris Patel. "They became like family for three days that they were here." That bond didn’t stop when the rain did nor did the hotel’s desire to give flooding victims a sense of home. Patel decided to speed up his hotel’s pre-planned remodel and donate every dresser, TV armoire, chair and bedside stand he can. It’s enough...
Social Media Goes in on Houston’s 97.9 The Box Over a 7-Year Long Ban on Rapper Trae the Truth Despite Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts
Beyoncé visited her hometown of #Houston, TX to provide some relief for residents who were affected by #HurricaneHarvey. Back then when Na'Tae was on the show they (Na'Tae and Trae) had words because...
Billionaire Gives Big $5m to Harvey Relief Fund
A Vietnamese immigrant and billionaire has donated $5 million to help Houston recover from Tropical Storm Harvey. Kieu Hoang, the founder of California-based Rare Antibody Antigen Supply, announced the donation at a Monday news conference with Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. Turner said the donation would help transition Houston's most vulnerable populations - seniors, people with special needs and low-income communities, he said - into more permanent housing. The mayor said it would cost about $9 million to assist the roughly 1,200 taking refuge at the George R. Brown Convention Center alone, an effort for which he's asked the American Red...
