Gov. Greg Abbott has visited a gun range to sign a law reducing Texas' fees for licenses to carry handguns to the lowest in the nation. The Republican endorsed Friday a law dropping to $40, from $140, the cost of first-time permits, and from $70 to $40 fees for 5-year-renewals. Abbott then took target practice, as he often does after signing gun bills. The National Rifle Association said Texas' gun carry fees are now America's lowest. HOUSTON - A University of Houston graduate and single mother of a special needs child has received her master’s degree after overcoming many obstacles the average college student has never endured. Taylor Williams, 24, of Dallas, crossed the stage as family cheered in relief after spending many nights in the hospital with her daughter Grace, 2, who has suffered from six different medical conditions since she was born. A virus that affects crustaceans is threatening the crawfish industry in Louisiana. It’s called the White Spot Syndrome Virus, or WSSV. Despite its name, researchers say it doesn’t change the way a crawfish looks. The virus wipes out large and medium size crawfish. It can also make them sluggish and weak. Houston-area crawfish distributor Vincent Florio, owner of Critter Runners, has been keeping a close eye on the situation.
